Dear Colleagues and Students,
Workshop Details:
Topic: Transitivity Analysis of Texts: Applying SFL in Linguistic Studies

Participants: Undergraduate students (SFL kids, CDA kids), MA students, ULIS lecturers, and other language enthusiasts
Time: 2 PM – 4 PM, Thursday, October 26th, 2023
Venue: Room 502 B2
Abstract: In this workshop, we will explore Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), an approach to language that considers language a multi-functional system. We will delve into the three discrete yet concurrent linguistic macro-functions: textual, interpersonal, and ideational. Specifically, we will focus on the Transitivity system, a vital component that interprets and represents experiences both in the world outside and within our consciousness. Participants will gain insights into the theoretical foundations of SFL and engage in hands-on practice, analyzing sample texts using the Transitivity system.
